The Eau Claire Farmers Market rocks! Yes, just went there (again). Yes, got flowers and veggies and more (again). You should go there, too.
I always forget just how much great food there is at the farmers market. There are tons of vegetables, of course. These neighbor-grown veggies taste great. You don't have to be a 'foodie' to appreciate that.
I grabbed some carrots and golden tomatoes, cucumbers and green peppers for a veggie tray I was bringing to a weekend event. Feeling creative, I also bought some dill for a beautiful garnish.
Almost immediately, I was drawn to the flowers. No surprise. The bouquets are huge and so colorful. Tip of the day: A vendor told me that the flowers tend to go pretty quickly. If you see what you want, grab it.
There's also locally grown meats available -- at a very reasonable rate, too. The meat people were just across from the booth with fresh honey. Wow. Gourmet food begins right here.
I do have a weakness, though, and it's bread. Two of my favorite bread makers were at the farmers market -- Great Harvest Bread Company out of Eau Claire, and Bohemian Ovens out of Bloomer. Love it.
Some local cheese also went into the bag -- to go with the bread. All I needed was a bottle of wine, but I had to pick that up later.
In the end, I left with both arms full -- one arm loaded with a blooming bouquet, the other packed with local produce. I always feel like I'm treating myself well after I go to the Eau Claire farmers market.
The Eau Claire farmers market is not the only place that supports local businesses.
