Eau Claire Weather

Eau Claire weather varies a lot from summer to winter. The best thing? We get the four seasons in all their glory.

Spring in Eau Claire starts out moody and slushy and ends with green sprouts. Our official last day of frost is May 15 -- which feels much too late, but reminds us to be wary when planting. Everyone wants to be outside.

Summer is for festivals -- if you look, you'll find something happening every weekend. Our parks fill with people. Jan Paul and I get our motorcycle out. There are some great motorcycling roads in Wisconsin. Temps at their highest are in the 90's -- but usually cooler (think 80's)

Autumn colors burst into action in the fall. Pumpkins and mums dot doorsteps. The grill works to get one last cookout before winter. If you can, check out the apple orchards.

Snow -- everyone waits for it. Snowmobiling, skiing, hockey -- choose your sport. My dad loves ice fishing and hunting the elusive whitetail deer. In fact, many men and women still participate in this tradition. Winter in Eau Claire gives us snowy (and sometimes icy) roads, though. If you're driving, be careful.

Winter weather can dip as low as 35 below zero with windchill. Generally, this is in January and February and here's a word of caution -- bundle up. If you're driving in winter, make sure you have a *winter kit in case you have problems.

Eau Claire weather is always changing. The locals say if you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes.

*Winter Kit: My lovely husband always checks to make sure I have a blanket, warm boots, gloves, a hat and jumper cables in my car.
