It would be easy to spend an hour in the first room -- all about the logging history in the Chippewa Valley. The thing that got me was the train that used to haul logs -- you should see the picture! Of course, the logging pictures are really cool. Horses and men with saws and old maps and things. I love it.

The second space shows a lot of native animals. A few you might see driving around the area. Pheasant, deer, rabbit, -- much better than just a picture.

Little kids will love the Paul Bunyan Tall Tales Room. Play in Paul's boot! Get familiar with some of the yarns (tall tales) told about Paul.

Before you go, you must go see the outbuildings. There's a bunkhouse. You won't believe the bunks -- and the bunkhouse store is nothing like WalMart.

Check out the logging camp dining house. It's said that if the cook was bad, the loggers often wouldn't stick around. You'll even be able to see the menus. Take a guess as to how many calories one logger might eat every day -- it's a lot!

Being able to walk through the buildings really brought the history of logging together for me. There's something about being there that pictures and books can't do. Seeing the logging saws and equipment -- how big around the logs got (amazing!) -- the huge coffee pot for the loggers -- plan on a fun afternoon.

Before I left, I checked out the gift shop. The historic pictures are amazing. I bought more than one. They look great. For my dad, I bought a picture for his cabin. My husband got a picture of loggers and saws by a huge tree. If your budget is small, the postcard-sized historical logging pictures are just right.

The history of logging is the history of the Chippewa Valley. Take a trip to Paul Bunyan Logging Camp and Museum. The best time to go would be when you can walk around outside -- there's a lot of buildings to walk between. A full-sized logging camp -- a fun way to learn about our original axe men.

Next door is more! Two museums are better than one, right?
