Mt Simon Park, Eau Claire, WI
Disc Golf, Dell's Pond, and Disco (ok, not disco)
Tucked away in an old part of Eau Claire, WI is Mt Simon Park. I was there recently -- just happened to be driving about and stumbled upon it. A little gem in the area, it's a great place to spend a sunny Saturday.
The location next to Dell's Pond is beautiful. Grab some picnic stuff, the boat, and the kids -- you're all set!
Mt Simon Park -- Upper Area
Catching a baseball game at the Babe Ruth Fields is a snap. Well-maintained baseball diamonds have a nice parking area and plenty of space. The Babe Ruth Fields are located right off of the corner of N Eddy Street and Addison Street.
Near the top, there's a new kid's play area. This style of play set has a lot of options for kids. Walking distance from the ball fields -- it's just across the street.
Just behind all of the baseball areas is a small open-sided gazebo. Large, grassy areas with plenty of room to run and lots of trees beg for a picnic. This space would be perfect for a game of Frisbee.
There's a beautiful little overlook with a bench, too.
Mt Simon Park -- Lower Area
Follow Addison Street down to the water. You'll find large pavilions, a boat landing and activities like disc golf and volleyball.
The Dells Pavilion is right next to the boat landing. It's also really convenient to the volleyball courts and would be great for a company picnic or small family reunion.
Covered pavilions ensure a good picnic spot. If you want to rent the Hillside pavilion, you can check to see if the space is open on-line. Then, send in your reservation request because the City of Eau Claire doesn't have the means to reserve it on-line.
This pavilion is large and has electrical outlets. Perfect for picnics!
Despite all of the water around Eau Claire, WI, there are limited boat landings -- Mt Simon Park has one. The 'pond' had plenty of folks with all sorts of boats out on the water when I stopped.
JP tells me that he spent many a summer swimming in Dell's Pond. Here, you can swim right off the pier if you like. There's not really a good place for tiny tots, though.
Right across from the boat landing are 2 sand volleyball courts. They're really close to the Dell's Pavilion, too. Parking is right there -- super-convenient.
The huge disc golf course is laid out amid trees and lots of grass. It would be great for a stroll, so I can imagine a fun afternoon playing.
That's the quick skinny on Mt Simon Park. It's tucked into an old part of the city with homes all around. Right on Dell's Pond -- and well worth the hunt to find it.
Disc golf, Dell's Pond, and disco -- minus the disco.
Inner tubing starts at this other Eau Claire park.
