University of Wisconsin, Eau ClaireThe University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire sits on the banks of the Chippewa River. It's a multi-level campus with a smaller community feel. Take advantage of the neighboring businesses and the great outdoors. UWEC Quick LinksNearby ParksAt UWECMulti-Level CampusThe University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire campus is multi-level. If you are staying in the dorms, be prepared to hoof it up the hill at the end of the day. If you're thinking ahead, you might stay in the dorms on central campus. Then, you'd only have to face the hill if you stopped into the Phys Ed building. You can also take the dorm room shuttle. ParkingStaying on campus has one big advantage -- parking. If you walk to class, you won't have to face crowded parking conditions. Now, though, you can take a shuttle bus and park farther out. The shuttle service would be on my list of 'must-do's if I were attending right now. Small Community FeelThe City of Eau Claire has a population of over 65,000. It's about 1 ½ hours from the Twin Cities but retains a smaller community feel. You'll get all the convenience of huge concerts in the nearby Minneapolis area with the loveliness of smaller town stuff here. You should know that we do have a few large concerts even closer. Country Fest, Country Jam, and Rock Fest are all close by. Outdoor RecreationTo really take advantage of the Eau Claire area, you should try some outdoor sports. Attend a ball game. Bike through the parks. Go sledding or skating. The University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire has a great rental service just for students. With boat landings and riding trails nearby, it's convenient to stay active. Just the thing to de-stress. A lot of people take advantage of our beautiful waterways by tubing or canoeing down the river. Cool off the easy way. Water StreetWater Street is within walking distance of the campus -- the Fine Arts Building is right on Water Street, in fact. If you're hungry, in need of a hair cut, or just want to go shopping, go to Water Street. Racy D'Lene's Coffee Lounge is a popular hangout. The buffalo chicken wrap at Mogie's is excellent. Also, you might try the Nucleus for breakfast. Get there early, though. It can get crowded. If you love Asian food, check out Quick Wok. It's a tiny little restaurant on Water Street that has excellent Chinese food. Ironically, Water Street is not really known for the water. It's known to have a lot of bars, though. It's also known to have people wandering into the road at random intervals. Drive carefully. Discover the fun things to do around the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Take a break and unwind. |
